These are not just good habits for your team to be successful these are life long habits that all good coaches and teachers should strive towards every day. These habits turn young boys into strong men, they help develop outstanding citizen's and leaders for our communities, city's and country. We should not have to worry about wins when we teach these habits, that will take care of it's self, and when we lose we will be able to stand tall and except the result for we know that nothing was left on the floor!
So these are the true habits that we should give all young men and women for a successful life. I truly believe this is how we create a great successful society through sports.
I agree with the toughness concept. I am in my third year of coaching graders and have never had such a rewarding experience or so much fun.
Breakthrough basketball has been a great resource for me and out school program. Here in North Little Rock Arkansas Lakewood Elementary we have made quantum leaps and I have always directed new coaches to use your site.
Going forward I plan to buy cds for the coaches to mandatorily watch them. I played basketball coaches baseball etc. I will be moving up next year to middle school but breakthrough basketball will be in our pockets. Jim Toler. Tony, these habits are very thought provoking as to how they would impact the success of a team directly, but I could not agree more that each of them does. The celebrating and relaxing and can happen on the weekend.
Setting aside your ego and focusing on being a great teammate while tackling challenges together is a much more rewarding way to work and live. They know that if they are playing, it is important. Tough players understand that if they want to play in championship games, they must treat every game as a championship game. My toughness is tested on this front every day. Make getting better every day your goal: Tough players come to work every day to get better, and keep their horizons short.
But the senior from Canada is getting a reputation for playing on the fringe of dirty, and it is hard to mount a defense for him. Gosselin was tossed from a game against NC State for a flagrant and unnecessary foul, and against Duke he delivered a purposeful elbow to Kyle Singler's chest while Singler was setting a screen.
There can be a fine line between tough and dirty, but I fear Gosselin is treading too close to that line.
He is too good of a kid and player for that. How it comes and goes remains a mystery no coach or player can solve. Remember, UT is a relatively new team, with completely new guards. For Tennessee to be the best team in the SEC, the Vols will have to learn to stay in front, make teams shoot over them, and stop gambling and giving opponents so many easy and open shots.
They put up more than enough points to win, and are winning games and are in a position to win games against really good teams because they play hard and rebound. As soon as Tennessee figures out the defense, the Vols will be really good. That's why I put him as one of my five preseason first team All-Americans. If I had to choose one point guard, it would be him. He is a winner and a terrific all-around point guard. Calathes had 32 points against NC State and is averaging 17 points, four-plus rebounds and just under seven assists per game.
I like the way Clemson is playing. Brian Gregory plays 12 guys in a platoon system, and the Flyers are athletic and energetic on defense. Dayton is holding teams to 35 percent shooting and just 55 points per game. There's not much offense, but the Flyers are very quick, with a blue-collar toughness to them.
Chris Wright is the leading scorer and rebounder and is finally healthy after missing 19 games last season. Skip to main content Skip to navigation. Jay Bilas Blog. How does one define toughness in basketball? I love this quote because you can almost take out the word tough and leave a blank space and it still works. The most important message I found from this book came from the example of Dr. You cannot believe it is hopeless, because if you do this, it is.
He works with the toughest people in the toughest situations. When he gives patients bad news, he immediately shifts his focus to hope, and a positive outcome for that patient. Without this, they can give up before they even start the fight. Hope gives providers and patients the toughness necessary to fight the fight.
